Wildlife Safari in Tanzania 2023
September 25 - October 5, 2023
Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
Join me in Tanzania for a 5 star, all-inclusive, wildlife safari of a lifetime. We will be guided through Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Maasai Mara including some of the most amazing sights in the country.
We begin our safari in Arusha National Park which is the only place we will see the black and white colobus monkeys. The park is also home to giraffes, warthogs, many bird species, and large baboon troupes. Our safari will always be in search of the African "Big 5" and will most likely check Cape Buffalo off our list in the park.
Tarangire National Park is our next stop where we will photograph Elephants and Baobab trees to our hearts' content. Other wildlife species include buffalos, zebras, gazelles, kudu, hartebeests, wildebeests, waterbucks, elands, giraffes, dik dik, olive baboons as well as predators like leopards, lions, (numbers 2 and 3 on the Big 5 list) and cheetahs. A few of the bird species include starlings, bee eaters, kori bustards, vultures, eagles, striped swallows, plovers, hammerkops, yellow collared lovebirds, and ostriches to name a few.
Third on our list is Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The main feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 610 metres (2,000 feet) deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from 4,500 to 5,800 metres (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high. The crater floor is 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level. The crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania.* Large mammals in the crater include the black rhinoceros, cape buffalo, hippos, Grant's zebra, Thomson's gazelles and Waterbucks along with one of the densest known populations of lions (numbers 4 and 5 of the big 5).
Last but not least we will spend 4 days in the Maasai Mara in our camp located on the Mara River. Maasai Mara is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation and wilderness areas in Africa, world-renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, African leopard, cheetah and African bush elephant. It also hosts the Great Migration, which secured it as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and as one of the Ten Wonders of the World.* It is here, depending on the rains, that we will witness the great migration. Thousands of wildebeest and zebras heading south into Tanzania crossing the Mara river full of hungry crocs. Weather conditions and wildlife behaviour play an integral role in the river crossings so while we cannot guarantee a river crossing, our location and specific time of year are chosen to greatly increase our odds of photographing the spectacular event. Maasai Mara is home to all of the Big 5 - Elephants, Leopards, Lions, Buffalos and Rhinos with the highest number of black rhinos in Africa.
